Resizing Partition and backup

Hi Grp,

I need your help.., Actually i want to resize my linux partition whitout deleting it .., means I want to preserve existing data .., so what should i do for that..

like If i wana resize /usr to 5000 MB    to /usr    7000 MB ..then what should i do?
Its good if anyone give buildin tool..means I dont wana use THIRD PARTY TOOL....

My second doubt is that, How can i backup my Linux system..I dont wana use Tar command .

Like in Solaris the command is ufsdump .. whats in Linux? and How to Restore that.......

I want to take Backup of whole Linux System fm 1 command...

I know we can use tar command..any other ???

Hi

Linux have very good utility called 'parted', this will  suffice you more than needed

I have once used it, it really worked fine for me but i have forgotten the options. After installing just give parted without any parameters you get help

Well there is a LIVEcd available named Gparted, just download it and you can use it, its interface is similar to famous PartitionMagic utitlity available for MS plateform.

About backup, you can set cron job. ..

What else i can suggest ?

But Ricky I dont wana use THIRD party Tool as I mentioned above also...

Second thing is that ..Ya i can use Cronjob also for backup..But there I have to use tar command ................


Do u know any other command ..which take backup of  my whole system

This may help with the back-up part.  It's for Gentoo but you should be able to do this with any Linux system.

I don't know of any other way to resize except the ones mentioned.
