Title: Xp is a Gateway to linux

HellO...

I got used to use my Xp as a gateway but many times suddenly it stop
forwarding the connection
sometimes it just allow w w w.google.com and nothing else
and in the same time i can ping sites and sending mails from my linux box

but i noticed that when this problem happen i see in My Connection details

PPP multilink framing OFF....
and i got tired trying to find from where can i change that ...
is it related to my ISP or something..??..



routing OK , pinging OK and even samba OK

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------and what about linux forwarding the connection ...
How this could be done ..?...

do you know what is multilink frame relay ? !
Well it is technique or simply method of combining two or more physical connections logically thus creating a single connection.

So I don't think your multilink framing OFF is related to this problem.

Ok now you says that sometimes it stops forwarding. And also you are in doubt that is it due to your ISP.

Well if you try to open sites on XP box itself in that condition (ie. when there are problems) and it is unable to open there then it is ISP problem.

I have faced some sort of that problem but in my case it was LINUX box connected to ISP and the problem was that their DNS server went down, so to solve that I put a series of DNS server available near my area so no more that problem.

And about linux as NAT box you can either install Firefox and use it for forwarding or you can see Internet Sharing Linux (http://www.linuxsolved.com/forums/ftopic115.html) !

My Xp work well and i got used to just do
route add default gw <windowz-lan-ip>
and it worked but suddenly stopped ....

--but when i do the same with Xp ...mean i add the gateway <linux-box-ip> and <dns> it dosen't work

Use DNS of your ISP instead of your gateway !

it works after i added my ISP ip instead..
but it was working before without...why it stopped ..?...
windowz bug ..?

well  , when you do internet sharing in linux then xp box also set as an internal dns server, for some reason it may not be working as internal dns server. Or may be your linux is not picking it as DNS gateway
