problem with sound on debian linux

My sound card is detected but at the time of startup i get a message saying "Error initialising sound server(Permission denied)" ..... i'm logging in as a non-root user as i dont hav the root permissions ........

As root, adduser <your username> audio

logout login.

Should do it.
