PLEASE I HAVE AN EVEREX SERVER WITH TWO NICS AND I AM USUING REDHAT 9.0 WHAT CAN I DO SO THAT I CAN USE 500 WORKSTATIONS WITHOUT THE BROWSING BEING SLOW I AM MOT USING ROUTERS I AM USUING MY LINUX SERVER AS ROUTERS

This is the exact condition where you need caching proxy server.
You should set up transparent proxy here in this condition as you can't do to every machine and doing setting in every browser . I think a cache of 5GB - 10 GB will be enough.
Make your Linux box have more 512 or more mb ram as 500 clients is a good No.
!! So configure transparent proxy !1

Squid transparent Proxy
