Hi all
How can I get linux system hostname in a network from my linux or windows machine ??
As in windows, ping -a option gives the hostname, so what should be used for that??
ping - a 192.10.10.1 returns its hostname ( in windows)

Acc to me u have to make DNS server for that.....

I was looking for some other option thru any network commands available in linux but did not find it.
so Now DNS is the only solution for this.

hi dear
go to konsole
and do
vi /etc/resolve.conf
which sotred your name server is your host name
