Trouble with Squid startup

When trying to initialize proxy I get this error message.
have configured the squid.conf file and all seems to be right on that end but squid won't start.

Here u hv made mistake in giving the default proxy port..

from ur log it seems that u hv a wrong line

delete any line which contains anything about port 3128 and add the following lines in ur squid.conf
Code: [Select]
#proxy default port
http_port 3128

and also put the following lines in ur squid.conf if they are not already there..
Code: [Select]
visible_hostname <ur hostname>
unique_hostname <ur hostname>

here insteade of <ur hostname> put the name which is given to ur computer i.e. the computer on which u r running proxy.. or just give anything.anything.cmx.

and after doing this if still the problem persist ..  
give the new details along with ur squid.conf file.

i am getting the same problem

I am trying to get DansGuardian up and running but I need squid first. Where do you put those lines? Can I put them anywhere in the squid.conf file or is there somewhere special I need to place them. Thanks alot!
