Problem in DNS server
« on: November 20, 2005, 06:00:30 AM »
Frieinds ,

I have configured DNS Server in Redhat Linux 9.0 before and it was  working fine . But now i make a try to create DNS Server in my new Linux box RHEL4 using same configuratin . But now it does not working . It shows Error in "/var/log/messeges"  and that is,  it cannot find "/var/named/named.hosts" and "/var/named/named.rev"
files in "/etc/named.conf" directory .

Whereas i  create two the above files (one: Forward :named.hosts   and another reverse file : named.rev) in /etc/named.conf directory .  Before this i made change in "/etc/hosts" and "/etc/resolve.conf" .
Can any one  help me what is the problem ?

Hi Dear
if you installed server then n then its possible to configure DNS server
other wise for workstation it never
b'coz i had also tried to configuration of DNS server on  RHEL4 workstation cd
 if you have server edition
check wheather you installed named package for that use following command
 rpm -qa | grep named
if installed then do the dns setting as you done in redhat 9

 Regards,
