Dear all,

I am new to Fedora/Linux and want to try it out as an alternative platform.

My computer connected to an Internet router which connected to a ADSL modem. I have installed Fedora Core 6 with both router and modem switched on. After the installation, network connection has shown that it detected the network setup and known it is always connected to the Internet via network. However, the browser still fails to access the Internet.

Please advise what should I do to fix this problem. Thank you.

You have to specify IP address, DNS address and gateway for the ethernet card. You can do that via graphical interface under network settings.

Thank you for your advise. Since I am new to Linux, I am quite understand. My network configuration is as follows:

<Ethernet Device>
General: Automatically obtain IP address settings with dhcp
DHCP Settings: Automatically obtain DNS information from provider

<DNS>
Hostname: localhost.localdomain
Primary DNS: <isp provided ip address>
Secondary DNS: <isp provided ip address>
Tertiary DNS: <none>
DNS search path: localdomain

<Network Proxy Preferences>
Proxy Config: Direct internet connection

Inside the router, the LAN settings are as follow:

ip address: <router ip address>
network mask: 255.255.255.0
dhcp start ip address: <start ip address>
dhcp end ip address: <end ip address>
dhcp gateway address: 0.0.0.0
Alway these DNS servers: <checked>
primary dns ip address: <isp provided ip address>
secondary dns ip address: <isp provided ip address>
dhcp server: enable

This LAN setting has been working with Windows for years. What ip address and where do I need to change in the Linux setting? Thank you again.

Thank you all,

Problem has been resolved.

The problem is in the router setting. It has incorrect ISP DNS address. Once fixed, FireFox gets on the Internet immediately.
