well.. i get logged in using SSH to remote machine and then compress all wht I need and then download to my machine. or tranfer from there to safe place !

one more thing u can do
go through 'rsync' for taking remote backup on scheduled basics.
read the manual page of it
#info rsync
it is already installed in redhat 8/9 etc.

Try this tool:
http://www.partimage.org
Download the "System Rescue CD". It's worth keeping
Works just nice for me
