Touchpad on Toushiba Laptop

I have an external mouse which works very well wiht this laptop, but if I remove it, and want to  use the touchpad, the curser goes crazy, and opens everything it touches..........

would llike to get that problem solved. I called Tosheba, but they want $35US to even talk to me about it.

any suggestions , please :-)
