« on: July 28, 2005, 06:53:45 AM »
HI To all,

I am trying to install SUSE-9.2 on ATA SATARAID on a  m/c.,

MY Configrations are:

Processor: AMD Athlon-64 bit
MotherBoard: ASUS K8S-MX
Harddisk: Hitachi Deskstar-SCSI- 80GB
RAM - 512 MB

Actually i have installed XP Professional on the same m/c , as XP SATA drivers are in Floppy given by hardware Vendor but SUSE drivers are not provided by that vendor......

When i tried to install SUSE-9.2    on that m/c

It gievs me the following error

No hard disk Found on your machine...................

I have searched Internet a lot but not able to find the solution...
So I think its a driver pb ..as HD is SATARAID......??
Where to find the driver of that..................................

PLZZ HELP ME >> I will be very grateful to all of u..........

Me in trouble...

 :(

THXX
Gaurav

In order to be able to access to your IDE channels on Asus K8S-MX it is required to load the ide-generic module. Please note that once installed, you need to boot with the installation CD, use the rescue system, mount the HD where you installed Suse 9.3 (or 10.0 RC1) modify the /etc?sysconfig/kernel by adding the ide-generic module end recreating the initrd file. (It is a bug in the SUSE installation process)

Additionaly if you want to use the onboard lan card yopu need to download the sis190/191 Linux GPL driver from SiS website and recompile it. (I hope that the latter is included in next release of kernel so you don't need to do that each time you upgrade the kernel)

regards,
blackdir

sis190 is for onboard ethernet card

As I mentioned the sis190/191 chipset is used for the gigabit ethernet card (on board). In order to be able to access to the IDE disk you need to recreate initrd by including the ide-generic module.

I happened to encounter this link :-
linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html

I think that is having required info about sata in LINUX.
