Hello
i have a conexant HSF 56 modem. i am facing problem in installing that modem in redhat linux8.0. First of all tell tht what steps should i use to install a modem in linux 8.0 and how i test that my modem is properly installed. i had read that HSP and HSF type modems doesnot work with linux because they are winmodems how do i solve that problem

You are correct winmodems dont work well with linux and if you are using an older version of RH they probably wont work. THere has been some success with some of the lucent winmodems with linux, I have a lucent winmodem on a mandrake 10.0 system that works. but I would recomment getting a hardware based modem. one that says it supports linux on the box. you will have more reliablity than with a winmodem.
